DETROIT, MI -- (May 22, 2012) — More than 100 members of the community attended the Esperanza Detroit kickoff celebration of the 2012 youth baseball season, which was held recently at Clark Park. Molina Healthcare participated in the event by providing giveaways, prizes and healthy activities for the whole family while cheering on its newly sponsored team—The Detroit Bees.
For the event, Molina Healthcare set up exercise zones for younger kids to play with hula hoops and jump ropes while their older siblings participated in the baseball games. Molina representatives also passed out healthy and fun giveaways such as hand sanitizers crayons, coloring books and baseball stress balls. During the celebration, three students were honored for their academic efforts, community service and strong morals. As part of their recognition, they each received a certificate and $100 Visa gift card from Molina Healthcare.
Molina has chosen to sponsor its first youth baseball team, The Detroit Bees, made up of 78 kids from ages 8-14, for the 2012 season. As part of the sponsorship, Molina is providing the players with uniforms and equipment.
“Participating in sports helps students be active and healthy while learning valuable life skills like teamwork and personal discipline to succeed. So, we’re excited to have our own team to support this year,” said Craig Bass, president of Molina Healthcare of Michigan. “We’re rooting for The Detroit Bees to make it all the way.”
